Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been prescribed omeprazole delayed release 20 mg daily for possible gastritis. I also take digoxin 0.125 mg 1/2 tablet daily for arrhythmia control and magnesium 250 mg daily ( not prescribed) but with my dr. knowledge for bone health and sleep aide. Should I question my dr.before taking newly prescribed omeprazole. Would Zantac 300mg be an appropriate substitute or would stopping magnesium while using omeprazole be a better choice.
Drugs known as proton pump inhibitors including Omeprazole may increase the effects of Digoxin. In the short-term, Omeprazole can occasionally cause an increase in the blood levels of Digoxin. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor. Magnesium and Omeprazole there is no indication between them.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
