Can Omeprazole Cause One’s Cholesterol Level To Rise?
Hello...Can Omeprazole cause your cholesterol to raise? When I used peploc my cholesterol levels was fine. Now that I am back on the Omeprazole 20 mg my cholesterol is elevated again. The Omeprazole works better than the peploc for my heartburn though.
Peploc (pantoprazole) and omeprazole appartain to the same drug class (PPIs - proton pump inhibitors). They have the same effects: reduce acidity liquid of the stomach.
So far, no study has concluded cholesterol raise due to omeprazole intake. Should look for other factors including diet, lifestyle habits and other drugs you might be taking along with omeprazole.
Hope this helps.
