Can Omnacortil Be Taken For Severe Hair Loss?
Can I take onmacortil tab for my severe hair fall n secondly my dr had prescribed this tab last year when I had severe hair fall n I took d medicine for ten days 10 mg of omnacortil n it really worked , after dat my hair fall stopped but now since 50 days again there is severe hair fall so pl advice me

Yes it can be taken for the treatment of severe hair loss under the supervision of a dermatologist.
Based on the history given you seem to have recurrent severe hair fall apparently caused by a skin condition called alopecia areata.
It mostly presents as a sudden loss of hair in well demarcated localized areas like scalp and /or body. It is a non-scarring autoimmune, inflammatory hair loss.
Oral steroids like Omnacortil are one of the commonly prescribed therapies in patients with extensive alopecia areata.
Treatment course ranges from 1-6 months, but prolonged courses should be avoided to prevent the side effects of steroids.
You are advised to consult your dermatologist for further evaluation and possible use of another medication like Sulfasalazine or Methotrexate which have shown good hair regrowth in the treatment of alopecia areata.
Your doctor may also advise Photochemotherapy like PUVA which is also found to be successful in such cases.
