Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

For patients in whom phlebotomy or venesection meaning cutting open a vein is not convenient or is contraindicated or for patients with relatively mild iron overload, oral Chloroquine Phosphate or Hydroxychloroquine sulfate, doses much lower than those used for antimalarial or photoprotective indications, can be effective. Plaquenil is Hydroxychloroquine.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
