Can Pomalidomide Cause Nasal Bleeding?

I was diagnosed with HHT about five years ago; I have experienced nose bleeds and anemia since childhood, (I m presently 56) and I am presently having iron chemotherapy once weekly just to maintain a red blood count between 6-8. Additionally, my HHT affects my colon and I have had to date at least 3 push endoscopic procedures and 2 balloon endoscopic procedures. My doctor wants to have me start taking Avastin a cancer drug which I understand has some affect on my condition. I ve also read that a drug called Pomalidomide addresses the colon and nose bleeds as well. Thank you as I look forward to noting your thoughts.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is not usual to have a nose bleed after taking this medication. However, some organic issues should be ruled out such as hypertension, nose polyps, sinusitis. So she should see ENT doctor for further evaluation. Also, a deviated septum may be present in some cases and it should be properly treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
