Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 52 and have my period fairly regularly. I havent gotten it in 2 months this time and have the same symptoms i did when i was pregnant with my kids...swollen breasts and sleepiness. My birth control is postinor2. I remember this happened before and i was put on postinor2, but dont remember the dosage. I cannot afford to be pregnant again. My boys are 29 and 26 years old and on the verge of getting married themselves! How often should i take postinor2 to induce my period? Help....I m desperate
Delay in periods can occur due to pregnancy or hormonal imbalance.I would suggest you to take a pregnancy test.In case of positive pregnancy result,I would recommend using mifepristone with misoprostol rather than postinor. Postinor is useful mainly as an emergency contraceptive. This drug may not help in complete removal of uterine contents. In case of negative pregnancy, hormonal pills like norethisterone can be taken twice or thrice a day for 5 days.Breakthrough bleeding will start in 3 to 5 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
