Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been diagnosed as having low testosterone. His doctor prescribed injections of testosterone as well as injections of pregnyl (10,000 units). Why would he prescribe the pregnyl? We are in our 50 s and not planning on having anymore children.
Pregnyl is a gonadotropin. Gonadtropins are normally secreted from the pituitary which is a gland in the brain.
Part of it contains units similar to FSH and LH.
These hormones influence the production of other hormones in the body including testosterone . It is possible that it was given so the the FSH and LH parts of it would cause the body to make more testosterone but you can discuss with your doctor.
I hope this helps
