Can Prelief Be Taken For Acid Reflux?

I have suffered from acid reflux for a long time and now that I am a senior (75 years), my symptoms have worsened. I take a ppi daily. Do you have an opinion about the product called Prelief that claims to reduce stomach acid and is taken before meals?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is not recommended for stomach acid reflux. Prelief is an over the counter 'food de-acidfier' formulated to help reduce up to 95% of acid from trigger foods and beverages. It is supposed to be taken with your food or beverage can reduce the acid and minimize discomfort.

However, for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole are preferred.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
