Can Prempro Causes Any Side Effect For Long Term Use?

I was prescribed the medicine Prempro for HRT for Menopause....but I am afraid to take it because it may cause breast Cancer. Plus my father had a stroke and I have high blood pressure. Should I take this medicine for 6 months? Am I a candidate for Heart Attack, Stroke, or Breast Cancer?

Hello and thank you for your question. While it is true that long-term use of hormone replacement such as prempro can have some risks associated with it most of the increased risk was found in women who took the hormones for longer than 5 years. If your symptoms are not severe it is best not to take hormone replacement. If you have severe symptoms take it but try to come off of it each year and definitely stop by 5 years. If you take the hormones less than 5 years you will not increase your risk of breast cancer, heart attack and stroke.
