Can Primolut N Tablets Be Used As Contraceptive Pills?
I am 27 yrs married woman. I was prescribed Primolut-N as a contraceptive (21 day tabs). But just read that it is NOT a contraceptive at all. What should i do ? Should i take another contraceptive (please suggest name) along with Primolut-N or just take contraceptive only (please suggest name).
Though the active ingredient Norethisterone is present in Primolut-N, it is converted into estrogen in the body. Hence, there is a thinking that it may be used as a contraceptive, as estrogen is present in most of the birth-control pills. However, in my opinion, it should not be used as a contraceptive and in many cases, it will not prevent you from being pregnant. Hence, for contraception, a combined pill containing progesterone and estrogen (both) should be used. Some of the products with brand name you can take are Ovral 28, Alesse 28,Yasmin 28, Ortho-novum 1/35 or Orthonovum 1/50.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
