Can Primolut Tablet Cause Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding?

I use primolut N 3years ago to stop my bleedin but it did not stop and even became worse that the bleeding has a fishy odor.D and C was performed and my period became ok.Now since 2months my period last for 2 weeks its on and off till 2weeks.Doctor prescribed Promolut N5mg 1tab 2x a day.Iam.afraid to take it because Iam.afraid things might happen again before.Is it safe to take it.Thank you.

Hi,

Menstrual bleeding is the shedding of uterine endometrial tissue. It responds to the decreasing Progesterone levels. Progesterone is the hormone of the luteal phase of the Menstrual cycle. This hormone controls the growth of uterine endometrium, changes the consistency of cervical secretions and also controls the ovulation.

Primolut N contains Norethisterone which is a synthetic progesterone prescribed as oral contraceptive pill, for irregular menstrual bleeding and abdominal cramps. It makes the menstrual cycle regular, reduces the amount of bleed during the cycle and also decreases the cramps. It does not help organic cause such as endometrial polyp, endometrial or cervical cancer and several other cause. Discuss with your doctor about the cause and use of drug.
