Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am an 83 year old female in remission from lymphoma since February 2017, with a history of afib, and recovering from shingles. I went to the er with dehydration from vomiting and loose stool. They rehydrated me with iv fluids waited for my heart rate to go down and into sinus rhythem, then discharged me with a prescription for Zofran as needed. While taking chemo I was prescribed 10mg of prochlorperazine which I did not take at that time.Would it be ok to take that drug instead of filling the Zofran?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes you can use Prochlorperazine for your vomiting. Actually both of these drugs Prochlorperazine and Zofran are used for severe vomiting, you can use either of them if otherwise not contraindicated. The former can cause some sedation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
