Can Progesterone Be Taken During Periods?

Hello Dr. my name is priya. i have mild polycystic ovaries. i have irregular periods. Im on metformin 500mg bd, synthroid 75mcg, bromocriptine 1.25mg. i went to my gyne today cos my period is late by 3 days now. she gave me prometrium 100mg bd for 10days. but when i came home i got my period. im not sure if i hv to continue progesterone. as im ttc she has put me on letrozole 2.5mg bd. kindly let me know if i hv to take progesterone hile having my period.

Yes, you should take progesterone even if you are in your periods.
Most common cause for irregular menses in PCOD (poly cystic ovary syndrome) is hormonal imbalance.
So progesterone pills are needed to normalize hormonal imbalance.
Once your hormones are normalize, you will have normal periods.
