Can Raloxifene Be Taken For Bones Instead Of Arimidex After Radiation Therapy

I had breat cancer, stage one only took radiation. My oncologist has put me on arimidex and wants me to take a shot twice a year for my bones. This is a very expensive shot which has a very expensive co pay. With all the expense from the cancer we are retired and simply cannot afford this. Why can I take raloxifene for the bone. It is generic for evista and has a very small co pay. I see her tomm. and want to talk with her about this. Just wanted a second opinion.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

* The Raloxifene is a selective estrogen modulator, not widely accepted for prevention of recurrence of breast cancer.
* While the Arimidex is non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor destined to prevent recurrence of the breast cancer very documented.

So, I would suggest following the guidelines of your oncologist strictly to get the best possible outcomes in this regard.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
