Can Ranitidine Be Taken After Consuming Alcohol?

Hello Dr. I have a new prescription for Ritidine (Zantac) and was surprised to see that one should not consume alcohol while taking it. Is this an absolute restriction, or is it the case that a couple of glasses of wine with dinner would not matter much? Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Some antacid medication like Ranitidine can increase blood alcohol level and this means if you drink one glass of wine the effect is more than one glass. The reason why you should not consume alcohol when taking Ranitidine is when you are driving because it is danger. So in this case I will suggest to be careful with alcohol not to drink when you plan to drive. But in case you are staying home a glass of wine wouldn't harm. But be careful one is enough.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Elona Dashi
