Can Risperidone And Seroquel Be Given For Infants With Psychotic Disorder?
Yes my autistic son is twenty and he was recently diagnosed with psychosis nos. he is taking 25mg of zero quell plus 1mg at breakfast. At 3 pm he takes 2 mg of risperidone, then 300 mg of zero quell at 9 pm. Is this common to be prescribed two anti-psychotics?
As per my clinical experience, the choice of anti psychotic molecule indicates clinical presentation and symptoms. It is quite common to prescribe 2 anti psychotic medications during initial cases for rapid control of hallucination and delusion symptoms. The both drugs act on 5HT2 and D2A receptors in the brain and hence, act upon Mesolimbic pathway to reduce the levels of dopamineneurotransmitter. It is the advantage of synergistic actions of both drugs which gives the best initial clinical response in acute psychosis stage.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
