Can Risperidone Be Used In Treating OCD?

My brother is 25 years old. He is a sardar. My father had a transferable job. So people in other cities do not know much about them. Often, fun used to be made of his jooda (head bun). Also, sometimes my father used to humilate him or tell him to get out of the house. He still remembers what my father used to do. My father loves both of us a lot but when angry he used to behave like this. He was an extreme, when he used to love, he went of the way and when he was angry, he would go crazy. Over the years, he has mellowed down. My mother is a typical mother, very soft and lovable. My brother dominates over her. He used to hit her often (when no one was around). Once my brother crossed the limit(he was around 18 years), my mother went to her brother s place. After that he stopped hitting but now he has stopped going to any of the relatives(maybe due to embarrasment). He didn t go to college. He completed his course via correspondence. Earlier, he used to go for a walk to a nearby park. Now he has stopped it ( he fears something will fall on him or someone will hit him). Once he fell ill due to a stomach infection. Now he feels that something is entering his mouth and he keeps spitting every now and then. He keeps washing his hands and keeps rinsing his mouth. He doesn t go out to open the door for fear of infection. He doesn t eat food with his hands (my mother breaks the roti and he eats it with his spoon). My parents had gone to a psychiatrist befor. The doctor said that he is suffering from ocd and a lot of negativity. He even said that my brother is too sharp and for once even the doctor was confused. My father used to earlier think that he was lazy but now he he has accepted that he needs treatment. The problem is till my brother does not willingly get himself treated, it is of no use. My mother continues to do his work thinking that he is ill. He literally keeps her on her toes. Of late, my brother hardly takes bath and keeps sleeping for 16-18 hours. Whenever I try to ask him about what he wants to do with his future, he gets angry and tries to avoid the question. I would also like to mention that he had suffered from tb when he was 17 years. Kindly help/suggest/advice. 2. A psychiatrist was consulted and he suggested Fludac (liquid) and Risperidone. Why is risperidone suggested? What is the daily dose for fludac liquid (in ml) and Risperidone for ocd for an adult? what is the duration? how should it be reduced to avoid relapse?

Hello,

Risperidone binds 5 HT 2 A receptors in the brain and responsible for the inhibition of Dopaminergic and Serotonergic pathways in the brain. It is used for main control of various mood disorders as well as Schizophrenia issues. However, kindly discuss the side effect profile of the Risperidone with your doctor before commencing the therapy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
