Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband had amylidosis about 3 or 4 yrs. ago. Right before that the Dr. had put him on creator and didn tsaywhy but took him off. The Dr. at the Mayo clinic when I asked could it been because of the Creator because I heard it can harm the kidneys. Then he was sent to an oncologist here who started him on a chemo drug in his stomach, I want to say Inveda but I m not sure if I m spelling it right. I guess that lasted around ten months. He didn t lose his hair but he did feel ill, and I also mentioned to the Dr. about him taking creator and he said no. About a yr. and a half Paul is diagnose as being diabetic and takes metformin after a score of 100. Now his physician said he needs to take rosuvastatin tab of 5 mg. Looked rosustatin on the Drug.org site and it says about rosustatin and causing proteinuria and also diabetes. Should he be on rosuvastatin? Why would this drug be good.for him?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, you should take Rosuvastatin medicine. No need to worry about the side effects like proteinuria or diabetes. These are very rare side effects of Rosuvastatin drug.
Rosuvastatin is the safest lipid-lowering drug and widely used without any side effects.
Diabetic patients are more prone to atherosclerosis and subsequently, heart diseases and stroke. So to prevent these complications, Rosuvastatin drug should be started.
