Can Sambucus Be Taken While On Metformin, Atorvastatin And Lisinopril?

I am on several medicines and I am curious if Sambucus (Elderberry) can have any adverse reactions to my medicines. Metformin, atorvastatin calcium, Lisinopril, tamsulosin, allopurinol. I ve been told that the elderberry extract in Sannbucus could boost my immune system to keep me from getting the flu, but I don t want any adverse reaction with my other medicine. I recently was diagnosed with diabetes type II and I had multiple heart by pass surgery. The last two are to help alter my urine ph to stop the formation of kidney stones. All are prescribed by my GP doctor, cardiologist, and urologist.

Hi and Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor ' Service . I have read your question and here is my advice .
Sambuscus is claimed to work for flu, constipation and cough etc. It may work but there is no firm evidence for it. Similarly to be honest no data is there to show if it interacts by anyway with other drugs , but I don't think it would make any problem.
