Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mother is 72 years old. She has Sarcoidosis she has had this for many years and never smoked. She is telling me there has been many times that she drive to a place and he doesn t remember where she is. Is this issue beginning to affect her memory?
If your mother is having these symptoms of driving in places that does not remember and she losses her way home she is very likely she is having dementia (which is memory loss).
Sarcoidosis may affect the brain and cause dementia so it is possible that sarcoidosis is predisposing her to develop dementia but it can also happen not dependent of sarcoidosis especially if there is family history of dementia.
She will need a check with the doctor to diagnose the memory loss with the doctor asking her to complete some tasks that test memory and thinking and then the doctor will decide on further treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
