Can Sulfamethoxazole Be Taken For Treatment Of Sinusitis?
I have had plugged ears for about a month with no other symptoms, then yesterday I came down hard with sinus problems. I have the sulfamethoxazole -tmp that was prescribed for a potential urinary tract infection which I didn t have, so can I use these for the sinus/ear problem? They are not expired. Thank you.
Sulfamethoxazole is a sulfonamide bacteriostatic antibiotic. It has a wide spectrum, so it can be used to treat sinusitis. I also suggest to use a saline nasal spray and use a humidifier at home for relieve.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
