Can Synthroid Be Substituted By An Iodine Supplement For Hypothyroidism?

I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid very mild, Dr. put on synthroid generic, slow dose. Very bad reaction with mental dullness and depression after only 2 doses. I stopped and am thinking of taking an iodine supplement as I have not had iodized salt in over 10 years and I believe I may be iodine deficient,. What are your thoughts?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello,

We can check your iodine levels in the blood. But thyroid hormone will have to substitute by the medicine because without it metabolism will become very slow.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Harshita, Ophthalmologist
