Can Taxim Be Taken For Persistent Cough And Cold?

Dear Dr.Pillai. Very good morning. I came down to India under an emergency situation,on 17th oct. Since my arrival I have been very sick. I have severe cough non/stop.I am getting always some liquid. Last night I could not sleep. This has also affected my voice. I have taken Dolo 650 two times and allercet DC at night. Can you suggest me some effective medicine. I would prefer to have some medicines not any cough syrups/liquids. Can I take the anti/biotic Taxim /O 200. Thanks for your immediate advise to get quick relief. The medicines I take are already available with you. Thanks and regards. Gopalakrishnan.

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have persistent cough and cold and you are wondering if you can take taxim . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are probably due to viral infection . Usually viral infection go away in few days by its own , but in your case the infection seems to be sever . As far as taxim is concern , thsi is prescription medicine and you should take only after prescription by doctor , moreover this is anti bacterial and not going to work if infection comes out to be viral . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and rule out condition like strep throat . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe anti viral drugs ( acyclovir ) , decongestant and expectorant . For now take steam , do warm saline gargles and drink glass of warm water with one spoon of honey in it .
