I started taking Telmisartan 20mgs 4 days ago for high blood pressure.my pressure resolved. I experienced intermittent dizziness and shortness of breath on a few occasions since starting it. should i worry?? Is it possible that this will resolve. my email is bridvereker @Hotmail.com
Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) commonly used in the treatment of high blood pressure. Generally it is well tolerated by most of the patients, however its common side effects include low blood pressure, increased serum potassium level and some times dry cough is also being reported. Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur as a result of low blood pressure which usually subside later on. To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position and take the medication at bed time. If these effects persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor to review the prescribed medication.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
