Can Tranexamic Acid Be Taken Post Intake Of Medroxyprogesterone?
I took medroxiprogesterone for 7 days to stop bleeding, bleeding stop for 2 days and came back... I have tranexamic acid 650 mg prescribed for my doctor, I wonder if is safe to take this medication after I finish 3 days ago with the medroxiprogesterone 10.
It is not safe to take tranexamic acid 3 days after stopping medroxyprogesterone. Medoxyprogesterone has a half-life of about 40-60 hours and it would take about 8 to 12 days for its total clearance from the body. Hence, if you take tranexamic acid 3 days after finishing medroxyprogesterone, it may increase the risk of blood clots, which can lead to serious conditions such as heart attack and stroke. Ask your doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medicine to stop the prolonged bleeding.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
