Can Transvaginal Ultrasound And Abdominal Scan Show Two Different Number Of Follicles?
hello doctor,
My follicular study(TVS) on 9th day shown that I have 2 follicles at left ovary and 1 follicle at right ovary. but 11th days scan(abdomen) shows that there is only 1 follicle at left side and 2 at right. Is it possible to happen like this? will there be any size difference between these 2 scanning(tvs & abdomen) methods?
Hi, Thanks for using healthcaremagic. The TVS study is much more accurate and better than transabdominal scan for detecting follicles. In fact, I never do follicular studies transabdominally as results are not very accurate. So, I think you should repeat TVS study and get it done by the same doctor so that he/she knows which follicles to measure. The TVS study is more accurate. In case of discrepancy in size, the size calculated on the TVS study is more accurate as we can see better on a TVS scan. Hope it sorts your problem. Regards, Dr. Pankaj Nagori Specialist Radiology
