Can Trazodone 100mg Be Taken For Treating Disturbed Sleep Problems?

My husband is having trouble sleeping due to a hospital stay and a short rehabilitation facility stay. He can sleep during the day, but not the night. He wants to sleep at night but experiences nervousness, and insomnia. He has several physical ailments. We have Trazodone 100 mg tabs cut in half. Can he take this medicine without too much side effects?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Trazodone is an antidepressant medication. It is used to treat major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders. It is not a sedative which is used to treat insomnia.

Kindly consult Physician for proper prescription of sedative to be taken.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
