Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Trulicity Shots Be Taken Daily For Elevated Blood Sugar Levels?
I had lower back nerve ablation done this morning and I was told not to take my Metformin 500mg ER; I took it at about 1:30pm. My blood sugar at 8:47am was 143. I just tested again and my blood sugar is 307! I tested twice with different finger and fresh equipment. I just took my evening dose of metformin. I ate turkey sandwich from Arby’s and medium curly fries at about 2pm. I also inject Trulicity 1.5mg on Thursdays. What should I do with blood sugar that high? Should I give myself my Trulicity injection a day early?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Blood sugar rise is common after any procedure like ablation that you underwent. So please don't worry.as you have taken Metformin,no need of trulicity now. For the time being and for rapid sugar control, you can go for ultra short acting insulin like inj. Novorapid 4-5 units with meals. This controls sugars rapidly.then you can carry on with your usual treatment regimen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
