Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi, did I read somewhere that you shouldn t take tylenol if u have shingles? Before the rash appeared I was experiencing odd headaches, I happened to have some tylenol 3 here and it took the pain away, when I discovered the rash and looked online I think I saw some reference to the medication but can t seem to find it now. Thank you for your trouble.
Tylenol contains acetaminophen or paracetamol that is used in the treatment of various painful conditions like headaches, muscle aches, menstrual cycles, toothaches, backaches, colds and sore throats, fever etc. Like other medications this medication has some side effects of its own but every person doesn't experience side effects when taking this medication. It can be used to treat shingles pain.
It is a very safe and effective medication for relieving pain or headache in case of shingles, if it is taken in the dose and duration as directed by the prescribing doctor. So, anyone can take this medication to help ease the pain in case of shingles without any tension.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

You have history of having shingles. Shingles causes nerve pain and sometimes severe pain. There's no cure for shingles, but treatment with antiviral drugs can speed healing and reduce risk of complications. It is treated with antivirals (like acyclovir, famciclovir, etc.) or steroids (Prednisone).
To reduce severe pain numbing agents like lidocaine, delivered as a cream, gel, spray or skin patch are prescribed. Medications that contain narcotics, such as codeine are also prescribed. NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen are commonly prescribed for mild to moderate pain for short term relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
