Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Mom is in a nursing home and receiving Tylenol, 3 times a day for the last 2 years. She is now experiencing loose, pasty, clay color stools several times a day, this has been going on for about 3 weeks. Could this be from the Tylenol. My email address is YYYY@YYYY
Tylenol contains acetaminophen and is usually well tolerated. I'd add that yes, clay-colored stools may be one of the side effects of Tylenol but loose stools are unusual.
Please check with the doctor whether loose stools are due to any other medicine.
Please also get your mom's liver function test done as Tylenol is being used for such a long time and liver enzymes should be checked.
You can yourself ask for this test or talk to your doctor regarding the same.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
