Can Utrogestan, Prevent Miscarriage With An Abnormal Embryo?

I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant, with six weeks I had a vaginal ultrasound because I thought it was wrong, only because the pregnancy symptoms, like sensitive breasts were declining. (2nd IVF with fresh embryo, first was miscarriage). I am also taking utrogestan. Can utrogestan prevent a miscarriage to happen, when the embryo actually isn't okay? On the vaginal ultrasound the doctor could only see the gestation sac and yolk sac, but no embryo.

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. Well, Utrogestan can help to sustain the pregnancy with a normal embryo and deficiency of progesterone. If there are any genetic defects in the embryo leading to failure in growth, this medication cannot help in preserving the pregnancy. In the current scenario, you can wait for another week to repeat the sonogram along with serial serum beta-hCG titres before planning further management. If there is a failure, please make sure to get the products examined thoroughly and detect the cause. Hope this helps.
