Can I take valsartan 80 mgs in the evening with verapamil in addition to valsartan which I take in the morning on the same day? My Bp is now elevated because of my sciatic pain. I used to take valsartan 80 mgs in the morning only and verapamil at bedtime but my doctor told me to take valsartan twice a day. Thank you. Iam 76 yrs old and have been on these meds for over ten years now with no side effects .
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Taking Valsartan 80 mg along with Verapamil may have an additive effect on blood pressure lowering action of Valsartan. It may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, decreased heartbeats, and faint especially while standing up from sitting or sleeping postures.
You may need dose adjustments in order to safely take both medications together. You should take Valsartan at bedtime and to notify your doctor if have dizziness or feel faint and avoid getting up abruptly from sitting or sleeping postures.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
