Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am reading that vancomycin is used only for stomach problems, I have been taking it iv therapy and after 10 days I had a reaction to it, but I was taking it for ulcers on my leg which was caused by a shelf falling on my leg, had taken Levaquin about 3 times by mouth, had not worked for me, I have been wearing an unaboot for a while now, it has been 6 months since this happened, I am kinda concerned about the vancomycin use for my problem, any insight would be appreciated. The main use of vancomycin is for staphylococcal infections. It's also very potent against other gram positive cocci like streptococcus (including pneumococcus which belongs to streptococcus species).
I can't think of any stomach problems that Vancomycin is useful for. Perhaps you're talking about antibiotic-associated diarrhea that can be treated with vancomycin by mouth.
So in conclusion, you'd better stick to your doctor's prescription. Your doctor knows your medical history and current status, therefore he's the most appropriate person to take treatment decisions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
