Can Velcade Injections Be Taken While On Vitamin C Supplements?

Would someone who has taken 500 mg vitamin C for years, plus drinks 1 cup of oj at breakfast and takes a multivitamin with 60 mg vitamin C - who has now started Velcade injection, once per week, for multiple myeloma -should he stop taking the vitamin C supplement and discontinue the orange juice - as it might interfere with the Velcade s action?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Thank you for using Healthcaremagic. I read your query and I understand your concern. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) significantly reduces the activity of Velcade(bortezomib) in treatment of myeloma.
Several preclinical studies suggest that vitamin C, which is one of the most common dietary supplements for cancer patients, increases the efficacy of cancer drugs and decreases treatment-related side effects. However, more recent studies show that vitamin C can counteract the activity of certain cancer chemotherapy agents, including Velcade, in the body. Best regards.
