Can Warfarin And Pravasatin With Calitonin Cause Elevation In Potassium Levels?
Good Morning Dr, I look after my mum who is a tremendous 91 year old. Mum is under a very good cardioligist; privately and he is lead consultant at our local general hospital. Mum has some vascular issues in terms of legs etc and we see a top man ( vascular in liverpool ). Two weeks ago Mum was admitted to hospital with high potassium level ( 7.4 ). Sorted with suitable IV etc. We had meeting yesterday ( private appointment ) with Cardioligist and he said heart rate good at 80 beats and blood pressure spot on ! We decided to have bloodt test re done and tonight I was phoned that potassium was 6.8. Consultant stated that 2 out of three can be inacurrate but suggest we attend the same hospital tomw for another blood test. I note that on leaving hospital Digoxin has been stopped and our consultant agrees as heart rate good and can be monitored. Candestatin stopped. Mum is on 1 mg to 2 mg odf warfarin per day depending on INR. Current reading is 2.3. Spot on ! One should not be tempted to look at internet but I note Pravasatin can indeed incease potassium ? Mum was desribed as having AKI secondary to dehydration and digoxin toxicity. For the first time she is now drinking two litres of fluids per day ! Urination is good. One hopes flavoured water is ok ? I note it contains Potassium benzoate as a preseravtive ? Mum has also been prescribed Calitonin for bone pain and this has worked brilliantly !!!!! She has had 50 units via ten injections. My question is at the end of the day have these drugs ( initially prescribed 8 years ago ) contributed to raised potassium levels ? My very best regards in confidence of course.
