Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I was just prescribed Zoloft for depression and anxiety. I take Ustell for Interstitial Cystitis and one of the ingredients is methylene blue. The drug interactions on Zoloft said there could be a serious or fatal reaction if you take Zoloft and methylene blue. Should I call my doctor before taking Zoloft
Yes you are right. Both Zoloft(sertraline) and methylene blue act concomitantly to increase serotonin levels and can lead to serious toxic effects if used concomitantly. Consult your psychiatrist so that he may change the drug (eg. A tricyclic antidepressant may be used instead).
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nirvik Sinha, General & Family Physician
