Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up during the night last Sunday with a sore neck. It has continued ever since. Stiff at base, sometimes a spasm of pain, difficult moving side to side. Can be difficult lifting head off pillow in morning. Crackles or cracks sometimes. Have used heat packs and nurofen plus but still annoying me a week later. Don t know how it started only know that two weeks prior to offset i banged my head off a fire place. Could they be related? Is it just a stuff neck or should I be worried?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A head trauma should be followed by imaging e.g. CT scan of the head. CT scan will show whether there is any injury to the brain vault or brain tissue. Neck stiffness, spasmodic pain, difficulty in moving the neck from side to side can occur in inflammation of the meninges which are coverings of the brain. You need to consult your physician or neurologist for clinical examination, relevant investigation and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
