Can A Person Having Lung Transplant Rejections And Acute Pneumonia Recover An Be Normal?
My daughter had a double lung transplant 4 years ago due to CF, No problems whatsoever. FV1 on 2/3/2014 was114%. She now has acute rejection (A4 Severe) along with pneumonia. She s in the hospital in NY Presbyterian. Can she ever get back to the way she was before this started? I am sick with worry about this. Thank you.
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Acute rejection with pneumonia in double lung transplant patient is very critical and chances of survival is less than 20%. These patients are on immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection. And because of this, they are vulnerable to severe opportunistic infection like drug resistant bacteria, fungus, viruses etc. So prompt action should be taken to isolate the causative organism for her pneumonia and start appropriate antibiotic according to sensitivity report. For this, she may need bronchoscopy and BAL ( Bronchoalveolar lavage ) analysis. So better to consult pulmonologist and discuss all these and start appropriate treatment.
