Can A Woman Have Natural Child Birth Post Hip Pinning Surgery?
Hi, I had pins placed in my hips when I was 11 and six months later when I was 12. These pins were placed because of my hip slipping from its socket and subsequently the other hip slipped after the corrective surgery on the left hip. My question is did this hip pinning affect the ability of my hips expanding after puberty and furthermore will this prevent me being able to have children vaginally? I am now 24 and preparing to have kids of my own but I wanted to know before I got pregnant. Thank you Brianna W. of California
You can deliver vaginally without any problem. Pl note that the pins would have been placed to fix your thigh bone with your pelvis and during delivery there is no involvement of that joint. The area which stretches and expands are located around front and back of pelvis and are quite far away from the location of your pinning. So feel free and plan your delivery as you wish.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
