Can Abdominal MRI Detect The Reason For Distended, Hard And Painful Abdomen?

My upper abdomen (beneath my breasts) I have pain. My stomach is distended and hard. I ve had colonoscopy and endoscopy and they say no blockages. I have had this pain/issue since July. I m at my wits end , do you think an MRI of my abdomen could show what s going on in there? I ve had Ultrasounds and they come back clear.

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
if you had endoscopies and ultrasound of the abdomen and no abnormal findings to explain your symptoms than MRI can be considered.
It is a very good test to visualize tissues of the organs of the abdomen and certainly can give a lot of extra information on the structure of those organs.
it does not have radiation and is safe to have it done but expenses and availability.
If you have abdominal pain with distension than constipation is a common cause and hard to diagnose with tests but is diagnosed mostly by history. if you have difficult defecation or bowel movement not regular make sure you get some fiber in diet and consider even some over the counter treatment for constipation. Irritable bowel syndrome is a common cause of abdominal distension and pain and is not diagnosed by tests, you will need to speak with your doctor and see if there is a chance you have this diagnosis.
An easy and important test to do is a stool test for ova and parasites to rule out parasites also because they can cause bloating and pain- giardia is one of them and needs a specific stool test for it also.
Make sure you drink plenty and keep healthy eating habits like taking small frequent meals and avoid spicy, greasy food and do not smoke or use alcohol- this might be small measures but that might help a lot.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
