Can Abdominal Pain With Pcos Suggest Tumor?

I am a 29 year old female, I have 2 children and this past pregnancy i had a hard time getting pregnant and my ob diagnosed me with PCOS. I have a dull aching in my left lower abdomen near my overies. My family has a history of benign tumors that have been found around age 30. It scares me a bit. But not sure if this is the case with me or if it is something else that may be causing it.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome is a purely benign condition. This happens due to imbalance of hormones. It is important that you confirm the diagnosis of PCOS by doing the ultrasound scan. Half the patients on ultrasound show enlarged ovaries with increased stroma and peripheral arrangement of follicles and this is the typical PCOS presentation. Lower abdominal pain m,ight occur in some. Most women have weight gain, male pattern of facial hair distribution and irregular cycles or absent periods. Please do not get scared, if PCOS is confirmed then taking hormone pills for few months will treat the condition. Please do not worry.
