I have been diagnosed with TMJ and was prescribed a night guard for the condition. The symptoms seemed to be improving until just recently. Over the past weekend I was chewing gum and had some anxiety and now it feels as if my neck is very stiff, the pain in the front of my ears (by the joint) is very evident and my ears have a sense of fullness to them....what can I do? IS acupuncture something I should try?
thanks for your query, the main cause of TMJ disorder is stress, so please donot get stressed out or anxious...you can use the splints and lead a stress-less life...avoid eating or biting hard food.. donot open your mouth too wide..give rest to the joint..you can give warm fomentation over the affected joint...if pain persists take a course of tablet piroxicam 20mg twice daily on the first day and once daily for next 6 days... wish you speedy recovery with regards Dr. Mahesh Kumar T.S
