Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I had a cat bite this morning. I immediately flushed it out with peroxide and took a 500 mg capsule of amoxicillin. I took another four hours later. It started getting very swollen, so I left work and went to urgent care. I had had a mild reaction to augmentin - skin sensitivity - once before so she gave me Baxin. I just took one, but all my friends in rescue said I really should take augmentin or doxycycline. Should I get a prescription for that instead? It s definitely getting more swollen.
No, I don't think you should change to augmentin as you already have a history of sensitivity. Continue with baxin. Also, augmentin does not cause swelling. Swelling after cat bite does happen. It is a physiological phenomenon and should subside in a few days. However, I do recommend you to get vaccinated with anti-rabies vaccine and immunoglobins if not done already.
I hope this was helpful. Do let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards, Dr. Akash Kumar
