Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 21 yhears old. She has developed this red rash. It has been spreading over the last 4 days. she has been on steroids for 3 days. Very itchy and is now over most of her body. We have not cha nged any detergent or anything. Doesn t look like poison ivy. Was around a cat a few dys ago. She is mildly allergic to them..She also had her wisdom teeth out 10 days ago and did take amoxicillon for 4 days. She normally doesn t have a bad reaction to that
I understand your concern. Amoxicillin can cause a rash with itching in two conditions. First is an allergy to the drug like any other substance to which one can develop allergy. The second is an infection by Ebstein Barr Virus ( Infectious Mononucleosis). If Amoxicillin is used in such patients they can develop a rash which can be extensive. Hope she gets well soon. I am available if you have further queries. Dr. Noble Zachariah
