Can An Infected Wound On The Leg After Injury Be Treated?
I have a large (4 L X 2 W) abrasion on my right leg from sliding in a baseball game. Yes, I was called safe! I was unable to clean it for 2.5 hours after it happened. I have been washing it with dial hand soap, hydrogen peroxide, and triple antibiotic cream. It has only been 24 hours and it is swollen about a quarter inch, oozing, dripping and kind of painful. Can anyone please give me any advice
Hello, As per size of Abrasion and symptoms you mentioned in your query like Pain, swelling, oozing suggests, its an Inflammation. Whatever you are applying on wound is correct. Cleaning with hydrogen peroxide and application of Triple antibiotic cream will heal the wound but for information you need to consult primary physician or General Surgeon. NSAIDs are necessary to reduce inflammation. As you said it was sport injury, you should take Tetanus Toxoid shot if you re not immunised in last 6 months.
Thanks & Take Care, Dr. Suraj D.
