Can An Overactive Sphincter Muscle Cause Urinary Frequency?
Hi. My dad (age 78) had a prostate resection done on April 15. He has had an overactive bladder for more than 10 years. He is now more than 2 month post surgery and is still peeing 20 times per day. Sometimes 5 times an hour. The surgeon changed his medication twice after surgery and today, we went back in to see him. He did some kind of test where they took a camera up his urethra and into his bladder and montitored while he peed. The result is apparently and overactive sphinchter muscle. I can t find anything online on this. Thoughts? Thanks!
Your father is known to have Over Active Bladder syndrome since last 10 years and now has undergone surgery of TURP for enlarged prostate 6 months back and his symptoms like frequency , urgency are still persistent .
Overactive bladder is a physiological condition where there are involuntary contraction of the muscles of the bladder even with small quantity of urine in bladder giving rise to irritative symptoms like frequency ,urgency for urination .
Where as Enlarged prostate is a mechanical obstruction in urethra passage causing obstructive urinary symptoms like poor urine flow ,UTI and hesitancy etc .
Hence it is very common for the patients having both these conditions simultaneously not to get relief from irritative bladder symptoms even after doing TURP .
Please give him anti muscuranic drug like Darifenacin twice daily .
