Can An Ultrasound Test Provide Quantification Of Hepatic Triglyceride Content?

I work in clinical research and have a protocol that is wanting an ultrasound done to quantify hepatic triglyceride content. My colleagues and I are stumped as to how ultrasound can provide quantification of any sort and the sponsor company doesn t seem to be able to provide any guidance either. Is this something that can actually be done via ultrasound? I know MRS would be better with liver biopsy being the gold standard. However, I am specifically needing to know if and how this can be done via ultrasound.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Ultrasound scan would certainly tell about the fatty changes taking place in the liver. It does not tell you exactly about the quantity of triglyceride content.
It also gives an insight regarding the echotexture of the liver and status of hepatocytes.
You can know your triglyceride levels by measurement in blood, along with lipid profile.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
