Can An X-ray Differentiate Between An Hydatid Cyst And Tumor?
Hello, I am a 46 year British woman 5ft4 and 9 stone 4lbs who has been living in Zambia for 12 years. I have been having some lower back pain over the last year or so and went for an x-ray which showed a round solid 'thing' two doctors looked at the x-ray and said it could be a hydatid cyst in the large intestine. I have never to my knowledge had tapeworms. A couple of years ago I had a scan which showed a ' fibroid' on my outer womb wall about the size of a golf ball.- the doctors who looked at the x-ray had not been aware of this. - medical histories are not stored on record here. I told the story of the fibroid to the man who performed the scan (which I also had) on the lower abdomen. The scan came out clear. My fear is that my mother had cervical cancer at 55 and had to have a hysterectomy and part of her intestine removed, She is still alive 10 yrs later. Is it easy to determine from a x-ray what type of growth there is and where exactly it is? what are the other possibilities and if it is a hydated cyst what are the chances I have others around my body or worse still in my brain.
Warm welcome to Healthcaremagic.com I have evaluated your query in details .
* Usually x-ray does not differentiate hydatid cyst and tumor unless there is any specific content in the cyst . * More evaluation possible with contrast CT showing heterogenicity and tissue details .
Wishing you fine recovery . Feel free to ask any further queries .
Regards .
