What Causes Bleeding And Pain After Intercourse?

I have been experiencing bleeding after intercourse, some pain during, and some pain in the LLQ after. Ten years ago, I had a very large ovarian cyst ( 17x18 cm), which covered almost my entire pelvis, removed along with half of the left ovary itself. While I was pregnant with my first child (2004), I found out that I had HPV and had to have some polyps removed from my cervix. All of my pap smears have been negative since then. The last one I had was last year in Jan. Is either of these conditions possible for the bleeding and pain? If so, which would be the most possible culprit?

Hello,

You have a history of having HPV, had ovarian cyst; presently you are experiencing bleeding and pain after intercourse due to sexually transmitted infection (STI), such as chlamydia, vaginal dryness (atrophic vaginitis), PID, endometriosis, cervical cancer, polyps, rough sex, etc. Cervical cancer is the biggest concern. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist. Get repeat pap smear, STI test, imaging tests, blood analysis, urinalysis (R/E and C/S), etc., done.

You will be treated accordingly, will be given conservative treatment or recommended surgery if required. In case malignancy is detected you will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you should avoid rough sex, use vaginal lubricants to avoid vaginal dryness, take vitamin E supplements. Do not douche your vagina or use any strong perfume or any scented lotions. Do not wear any ornament in your private parts.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
