Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Ankylosing Spondylitis Cause Painful Swelling In The Feet And Hands?
I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and I take Humira injected once a week and 75mg of Arthrotec 2 times a day. Usually I don t even feel like I have AS, but I seem to be having a flare and can hardly function. The pain and swelling in my feet and hands is unbearable
Yes. Ankylosing Spondylitis is an autoimmune arthritis affecting the joints around the body. Although mainly known to affect the spine and larger joints such as the hip and sacroiliac joints, it can also affect the smaller joints of the hand and feet. An acute flare can occur once in a while and can be disturbing. Although it seems that your medications have been optimised, I suggest a visit to your rheumatologist for management of the current flare.
